Taking Care Of Your Pool In 4 Easy Steps

Winter is coming.

It’s inevitable, as much as you may wish to deny it as you sit poolside enjoying a late Summer day. Those hot Summer nights are fleeting here in Canada, so you’ll want to make the most of them.

That includes taking care of your pool. For as much as you don’t want to think about those cold days ahead, it’s through proper planning that you will get the most out of your pool.

That means that you should always be thinking a season ahead. So as Summer turns to Fall, you have to start planning for the closing of the pool and the Winter that awaits us.

Here are some tips to best take care of your backyard oasis this Fall:

1. Clean those filters

The Fall leaves may be beautiful, but they are a pain for the pool owner. They have a terrible habit of falling, you see.

So, take the time in the Fall to clean the filters regularly. Leaves trapped in the filter can damage the motors, which will require a large expense to fix and potentially delay the re-opening of the pool come next Spring.

2. Don’t forget the cover

The pool cover gets the short end of things. You drag it around, step on it, and it takes the heavy hits of weather, squirrels, the dog, and everything in between. So, give it a good look and repair whatever damage it got during the Summer.

3. Buy new chemicals

As much as it’s sad to be thinking about closing the pool for the year, you can also start to get excited by the prospect of opening it again in the Spring. You can do that by getting your supplies stocked up and ready to go. So, buy all the chlorine and shocks in the Fall.

Bonus: many retailers will sell off their supplies in the Fall, so you might get the chemicals at a bargain as well!

5. Did we mention that Winter is coming?

And this is Canada, so the Winter is bound to be tough. So, you need to make a plan to winterize the pool.

You can do this on your own, or search MoveBuddy to find a service that can do it for you. Either way, it’s an important task that will require careful planning and meticulous effort. We will detail those steps in a blog later this year, but in the meantime start with creating a plan now.

If you follow these simple things, you can rest assured that your pool will be in top shape as you enjoy the last few weeks of warm weather!
